Community-Owned Mesh Internet for Vermont
A cooperative that deploys and maintains affordable internet infrastructure — starting in Burlington, expanding outward, the way mycelium does.
Join the NetworkThe Problem
Rural communities are underserved or entirely unserved. Even in Burlington, public wifi infrastructure has been left to degrade. Incumbent ISPs extract value without accountability.
Burlington Telecom is a rare public utility ISP — but its reach is limited to the city. The gap between what exists and what's needed is where MycoMesh lives.
The Model
Affordable co-op membership, democratic governance, transparent costs, no profit extraction.
Grant-funded infrastructure, community maintained, filling the gaps the market ignores.
Free wifi as a community amenity, not a corporate offering.
The Plan
Revitalize free public wifi on Burlington's Church Street in partnership with Burlington Telecom. A visible, high-impact proof of concept using existing fiber infrastructure.
Expand into Burlington neighborhoods as a co-op ISP. Members pay affordable monthly dues, own a share of the network, and participate in governance.
Use the Burlington model as a template for underserved Vermont communities. Community mesh networks where the market has failed.
Resilience
High-bandwidth WiFi, CBRS, and fixed wireless delivering the internet access you pay for. The service that keeps you connected day to day.
LoRa mesh radio that survives power outages, internet failures, and ice storms. Text communication and network monitoring that works when nothing else does.
The internet layer is the mushroom — visible, useful, what people come for. The resilience layer is the mycelium — persistent, underground, holding the ecosystem together.
Mycelium is the original mesh network — a decentralized, resilient, underground system that connects and sustains an entire ecosystem. No central node. No single point of failure. Every node contributes.
That's what we're building.
